The former handsome castle is situated in 370m height on the northern foothills of theLangenberg. The masters Frankenstein build their fortress on a protruding nose that could be easily defended. It was first documented in948.
The origin of the castle, which can still be visited, stems from the 13th century.Extensions followed in the 14th/15th centuries and the fortress was again reinforced in the 16th century.The Darmst�dter Landgraves bought the castle in 1662. The castle dilapidated in the 18th century but already in the 19th century it was saved.

From the castle's Caf�-Restaurant one has a great view over Rhine-Main-plains towards the cities Worms, Oppenheim, Mainz and Frankfurt.
Every year at the end of October/beginning of November the Castle Frankenstein becomes spooky. Wafts of mist come about and monsters appear from their hiding places. "Halloween", a professional Monster-Show, draws thousands of people under their spell and give them the creeps.

The castle can be reached directly by car over a winding road that branches off from the� B 426. Public transport brings you to the stop Frankenstein at the foot of the hill. A roughly half-hour walk will�take you to the castle.
